TOEFL Reading Strategies

Strategy 1: (for easier articles)
1. Preview the article.
2. Preview the questions.
3. Answer questions.

Strategy 2:
1. Preview
2. Read the article quickly
3. Answers the questions.

Strategy 3:
1. Skim the entire article. (read it all very quickly)
2. Try to remember key nouns, dates, sections.
3. Answer the questions.

2. (preview the article)
3. Answer the questions.

Strategy 4:
1. Only read the introduction. (topic, main idea)
2. Answer easy questions first. ("refer" questions and synonym questions)
3. Answer the last questions.

Strategy 5:
1. Preview for first sentence, names, dates, places, and other key words.
2. Read questions to find out which questions match with preview.
3. Answer.

Strategy 6:
1. Read article carefully.
2. Answer questions that you already know.
3. Then, go back and answer harder questions.

Summary:
1. Preview or skim the article; try to remember key words, names, places, dates, and sections.
2. Read the questions (?).
3. Skim the article. (only if necessary)
4. Answer the questions: easy questions first; then go back and answer difficult questions.

Don't Forget: 
Always answer all of the questions before moving on to the next section.
